Infrared Temperature Measurement in

Steel Processing and Manufacturing

Major Applications

Continuous CastingReheating Rolling Mills Rod/Wire Mills Forging Mills

Raytek® Marathon and Thermalert® noncontact infrared thermometers are designed for use in steel manufacturing processes where monitoring
and controlling temperature is critical to productivity and product quality.
Temperature readings show whether processes are operating within their proper ranges, whether a reheater is too cold or too hot, whether a stand
needs adjusting, or how much cooling should be applied. Each stage can be accurately monitored so the steel retains correct metallurgical properties
as it travels through the milling process.

Every section of the steel manufacturing process
can benefit from Raytek infrared thermometers.
These benefits include the following:
• Higher quality products
• Increased productivity
• Reduced energy costs
• Enhanced worker safety
• Reduced downtime
• Easy data recording

Raytek infrared sensors take temperature measurement one step further. Simultaneous analog and digital output allows temperature data to be integrated into a closed loop control system and simultaneously output for remote temperature monitoring and analysis. Raytek smart sensors, with digital electronics and 2-way communications, can be configured remotely from the safety of the control room–especially important for metals with changing  emissivities. The result: increased functionality and greater control. With over thirty years experience, Raytek knows infrared temperature measurement. Our applications specialists are located around the world to help answer your technical questions. Maintenance, training, calibration, and other customized services are available to ensure that you receive the maximum benefits from your Raytek infrared thermometers.

Models Available:

MR1S
High performance two-color sensor with two-way digital communications, dirty window alarm, and fast response time. Specially designed for harsh, high temperature applications.

MA1S/MA2S
Advanced electro-optical design combines fast response time with superior optical resolution for small or distant targets. Real-time monitoring for medium and high temperature applications.

FR1
The Marathon FR1 fiber optic two-color infrared thermometer measures temperatures from 500 to 2500ºC (932 to 4532ºF). FR1 units permit measurement of targets in harsh industrial environments that are otherwise inaccessible. The small, variable focus optical head is connected by flexible fiber optic cable to remotely installed electronics housing.

FA1/FA2
The Marathon fiber optic infrared thermometers (FA1/FA2) measure temperatures from 250 to 3000ºC (482 to 5432ºF). FA1/FA2 units permit measurement of targets in harsh industrial environments that are otherwise inaccessible. The small, variable focus optical head is connected by flexible fiber optic cable to remotely installed electronics housing.

FA1G
The Marathon FA1G is a fiber optic infrared thermometer designed for measuring glass temperatures from 750 to 1675ºC (1382-3074ºF). The FA1G provides the most flexibility for temperature measurement and control in glass environments.
